I went into this expecting a casual little fantasy read and instead got hit with dragons, ravens, foxes, and massive political drama over a literal triple murder. Immaculate. The absolute best part of this book is how the women literally run the world. they are gorgeous, lethal, and politically terrifying.

The first book of the Legend of Gardyan series follows the story of Radu Corvinus, a young changeling of infamous descent. Born in the 16th century in one of Wallachia’s remote foothill villages, his fate takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with a woman of the fairy folk in the Carpathian forest. A woman he has more in common with than he first assumed.
Being introduced to her homeland and customs after his mother’s early death, the half-blood discovers a part of his heritage, that is darker than any of the horror stories his long-lost father ever told him. Little did he know that he was about to become one of the scariest, yet most desired legends among them all and by doing so, taking much after his father, especially when it comes to his taste in women.
Sign of the Raven absolutely delivers on immersive, high fantasy world-building! From the very first chapter, I felt dropped into a layered, living world filled with ancient lore, political tension, shifting alliances, and magic that feels both dangerous and deliberate.
